All of life is based on timing. Eric Morecambe
When the last door begins to close, the first one opens again. Part audio documentary, part silent film, FLASH explores our relationship with time through one man’s story. Throughout the work, metre and form is delineated by the defining moment of a photographer’s flashbulb.
With thanks to photographers Claudine Quinn and Laurence Winram – who kindly allowed me into their studios to document their work – and to Tim Andrews, for his openness and generosity of spirit.
FLASH was commissioned by SOUND – Scotland’s Festival of New Music – as part of their See: Hear strand, which focused on the relationship between sound and image. There, it opened a performance of acousmatic works by invisibleEARts on 3rd November 2013.
